I recently installed a SBT motor in a 2002 GTX RFI. Everything appears to be installed correctly and the motor starts right up out of the water. When I place the ski in the water, I have trouble getting it started. Compression is 130 on both cylinders (that is with my gauge). Out of the water, again the ski will rev up. In the water has a tendency to bog, that is after you finally get it started. Could there be a problem with the TPS? Does this sound like my problem child? If so, how do you go about re-setting the TPS? Any help would be appreciated.

Re: 2002 GTX RFI- NEW SBT Motor -- Help
The idle speed or TPS may be off, yes. If anyone tried to adjust either, it is certainly off. Only the dealer computer can correct them. The other thing common to cause that is damage to the intake manifold rotary valve surface, or when it's out of tollerance. We remachine them on exchange if yours is damaged.SBT Tech Support is here to help with your problems.

Re: 2002 GTX RFI- NEW SBT Motor -- Help
I took the ski to the dealer and they hooked it up to their machine. When diagnosed the TPS reading came up at 4.4. The adjustment screw was backed out until the throttle plate was closed. The throttle was flipped a couple of times to make sure the plate was closed. Next the adjustment screw was turned to provide a reading of 6.4. I thought this would solve my problem. Once I got home and tried to start the motor, it was very difficult to get started. I had to give it gas while cranking and then if finally fired up, however it would not idle. I have since then turned the idle adjustment screw in 2 more full turns just to get the ski to barely idle out of the water. Am I proceeding the correct way? I am going to put it in the water and see if I can even get it started. Please help!

Re: 2002 GTX RFI- NEW SBT Motor -- Help
First, are you saying you had it adjusted at the dealer and didn't make sure it worked there? #2, since you now moved the idle screw, you get to go back and have it recalibrated again. As I already told you, you can't do that. It needs to be set with the dealer computer.SBT Tech Support is here to help with your problems.

Re: 2002 GTX RFI- NEW SBT Motor -- Help
yes they did save the calibration at 6.4. Does this figure seem to be right? And yes I did not try it at the dealer, was closing time, figured this would take care of the problem???There was a time that the screw was set and a reading of 10.2 was read, and we did start the motor up, however it seemed to rev high so they backed the screw out to give the 6.4 reading. Since I have marked the adjustment screw to the 6.4 setting can't I just turn the screw back to my 6.4 indicator? But I guess then again, why will the ski not idle? Is 6.4 to low?

I don't recall the correct range at the moment.
Take it back and actually have them fix and verify it.SBT Tech Support is here to help with your problems.

Re: 2002 GTX RFI- NEW SBT Motor -- Help
I really appreciate all of your help. One last thing, what effect could a possible voltage drop on a battery have as well on this problem? I am going to just put a new battery (odessy) in this afternoon and try as well? what are you thoughts? and thanks again. Sounds like my problem is in this TPS area.

I can't say for certain what effect a bad or low battery would have on the TPS voltage, I have not personally tested that scenerio.SBT Tech Support is here to help with your problems.
