  • Engine Swap

    I'm swapping an engine from a 96 717 HX to a 96 Spi that used to have a 587.

Coupla questions. Will the exhaust fit and/or work? Do I need to switch computers and wiring harnesses, just computers, or nothing at all? The 717 also has some watercooling jets on the top that I need to know what to do with.

Anything else I should know? I put the 717 in the craft last night, just need to know what else to do.

    Re: Engine Swap

The 717 engine is compatable with the 587 electronics, and you should not need to change anything. They both use the single generating coil stators and the same magneto flywheels. There is a difference in where the rev limiter is set as the 587 is set lower than the 717 rev limiter. You cannot change the rev limiter without changing the MPEM or installing an aftermarket rev limiter, so try it on the water to see if it hits the rev limiter or not.
I do not know which exhaust system you want to know about? Are you planning on the 587 exhaust on the 717 engine? If so, it will bolt up and work if it is the cone type stinger high performance 587 exhaust, not the one from the SP other non performance cheaper model Sea Doo's. Otherwise, if you have the 717 exhaust, use it in place of the tuned pipe 587 exhaust system.

This is really a fairly simple swap.

      Re: Engine Swap

What about the watercooling ports on top of the 717. I did not pull the motor so I did not see what those were hooked up to? Do they connect to the 717's exhaust?

If so, how do I route them? Which goes where?

If not, what should I do with them?
