1995 seadoo gts no spark

Hi

The engine turns over but has no spark. I checked the fuses in the MPEM and they are ok. I was going to try to ring out the MPEM. Does anyone have any suggestions for this?

I have no idea of what "ring out" the MPEM means, so no, I have no suggesstions for you about that.

The spark is handled by the CDI in the coil. You may have a bad CDI or coil, but there are thngs you need to try first.

The red/black wire from the MPEM to the coil needs to be disconnected to see if that is killing the spark.

You also could have a faulty lanyard post that does not actvate the ignition when depressed, so you may need to check that too, if disconnecting the red/black from the mem does not work.

And of course there is the battery itself. Does it have enough voltage to run both the starter motor and the ignition with the starter motor cranking the engine? Or is the starter robbing too much juice to do both?

Hi Bill

I guess what I mean is debugging the mpem. I wanted to try the easiest things first before removing the mpem. I tried removing the wire from the coil and still no spark. Do you know what the voltage would be running thru that wire so i can check that?

I tested the landyard and that works fine. I also noticed that when I try to start the engine the starter engages cranks the engine and after a seconds disengages and then re-engages. Didn't know if this was also part of the problem or just a bad starter.

You cannot remove any wires from the coil and expect it to still spark. The red/black is tee'd into the wire that comes from the stator to trigger the CDI and that wire needs to be attached to the coil to fire the ignition. You only want to disconnect the branch wire going to the MPEM.

If you stater engages and disengages, it is a starter problem. Probably the bendix is worn out, or the battery is so low it will not sustain cranking the starter motor fast enough to keep the clutch engaged.

Sorry I misunderstood what wires to unplug. I disconnected it from the Mpem and there is still no spark but and interesting thing is that the starter doesn't act like it did previously. It stays engaged until I let go of the start button. The battery is fine so I know it isn't that.
