  • 717 Rotary Valve Cover

My rotary valve cover has small indentions on the inside bottom of each port hole. Each is a bit more than a scratch but I think I could easily file them down with some sand paper. Does it need to be machined or should I try to sand it down?

what happens if I don't? Will it leak oil? Just curious.

You can strip the brass gear if the oil film on the valve is disrupted enough.
