Does anyone know where to purchase a spedometer for a 1996 xp? I would really like a digital, but any will suffice.

Same answer - XP's had tachs, 1995 included.
Try parkeryamaha.com for some aftermarket units.Last edited by Technical Support; 03-22-2007, 09:38 PM.SBT Tech Support is here to help with your problems.

Well, it is defiantly a '95. I just went out and looked at it, and here are the gauges:

Re: Speedometer-Seadoo xp???
Sorry, I don't know why I read and thought tach - LOL
An aftermarket speedo is a totally custom job. The sending unit would need to be mounted somehow, part of the rideplate cut away, and the gauge wire run. There is no drop-in kit that I'm aware of.
If you just want accurate speed numbers, most people use an inexpensive GPS and strap it to the handlebars, such as an Etrex. Otherwise it's quite a useless gauge in the first place (they are WAY off in most cases).
You could possibly retrofit all the appropriate 1996 parts (I'm not sure they would all fit though) but you would be spending $1000 for an inaccurate gauge.SBT Tech Support is here to help with your problems.

Re: Speedometer-Seadoo xp???
Speaking of XP Speedos...I cranked my 97 the other day for the first time this season while it was sitting on the trailer. The speedo registered about 15 mph, and when I revved it up it shot up to about 60 then back down with the engine RPM's like a tachometer. I thought this was really strange. I'm the original owner of this ski and have never had it do such a thing. It was fine the last time I rode it, so I don't know why it would do this now. Any ideas on what the probelm might be? I just ran it for about 15 seconds on the trailer. Maybe it will straighten itself out the first time I take it out on the water. Any clues, ideas, or suggestions would be appreciated.

A GPS just needs a view of the sky and you will see an extremely accurate speed readout along with a max speed on most models. A basic Garmin Etrex model is under $100 new, under $50 used on ebay. They are also water resistant. I used to just wrap mine in a towel and put it in the glovebox - it still aquired the sat signals just fine.SBT Tech Support is here to help with your problems.
