  • Melted Piston Question

'92 XP with fresh 580, hot rods crank and WSM pistons.

I found a melted piston after just an hour of break-in. What can cause a melted piston?

More importantly.... how the heck can you verify your fuel mixture after the engine is all assembled and running? Is there any way to test the carbs for mixture?

That's a perfect example of why I love fuel injection.... it gives you notice of a lean condition.

    TIA.

Typically, when this happens it is because you did not fix the fuel system/carbureators before you installed the new motor.

Your carbs could be all clogged up with debris, as well as the fuel valve on the dash.
