    Re: seadoo 580 tach installion

    The problem with these tachs is that they are set for 4-stroke motors. On a 4 stroke 1 plug fire = 2 revolutions. And the tach sees ignition tigger events. So on a 4 cylinder we have 4 events/2 revolutions, or 2 events / revolution. An 8 cylinder is 8 events / 2 revs or 4 events/rev.

    On a 2 stroke 1 plug fire = 1 revolution. So that's 2 mag events / revolution.

    OK, lets pretend you set your tach to 4 cylinder mode an use it on your ski. In 4-cylinder mode 4 events/2 revs (2 events / rev) should give your ski the correct reading if the mag actually sends 1 event for each cylinder.

    To do this connect wires as follows:

    red = +ve
    black = -ve
    white is usually the tach face light
    yellow/green = pulse.

    The pulse line would go to either the B/Y wire from the magneto housing.

    Let us know if it works.

    Eldon.
