Bought a RFI with engine problems, with motor pulled (full of water and sending crank to SBT for repair), I am examining the pump.
I think I found the root cause, a rope had fouled the impellor and housing pulling the entire center section of the pump forward about an 1 & 1/2 inches. THis pushed the drive shaft forward and left a gap of about an inch at the carbon seal, and let water enter into the hull. Based on the water removed from everyting, including the gas tank, I think it sank..
Take a look at the pump housing and note how everything is pushed forward. I think the pump is trash, but if you have any tips on repair, they are always appreciated...
Any idea which pumps are the same as a 99 RFI?
Bill O'Neal has already called this pump a high contender on his wall of shame.. Guess the pump is trash.
Now, how to get the impellor out?? I really wish Seadoo made regular fittings, like a nut on the end of the shaft.. like any other engineered product...
Thanks,
Glen
