Re: 97 Seadoo speedster,,Twin 85hp motors
It most likely needs center seals on the crankshaft. Big job, remove motor, tear apart motor, buy a rebuilt crankshaft and re-install the crank into the motor and back into the boat.Originally posted by todd7211first jet boat i have ever bought,,,got it home,,it has the twin 720cc motors.....they both run great,,,but i notices the one motor is has excessive oil coming out the exhaust,,,Why is this doing this????Motor runs perfect no bogs...could it be something in the oil lines or something...Any pointers i would really appreciate it....Bill O'Neal <br>

That is probably the problem, that or either the pump alignment is way off, but probably the crank seals if its in bulk.......my old ski ran like that for 5 years before I finally sold it, and it ran a year or two after I got rid of it. If you can live with it............keep riding it.

Re: 97 Seadoo speedster,,Twin 85hp motors
I dont know,,,maybe it resealed itself,,,,i ran it today,,,and the oil grey sludge stopped,,so i hit the lake,,,,,ran strong,,,three people in the boat and 1-2ft waves and my gps said 50mph..so i figured that wasnt to bad,,,,maybe i just need to install valves on the lines for the gear on the crank so if the seals do seep it wont fill the block if they are,,,,this was the first time this boat has been out in a year,,,so maybe things just needed to get heated up and expand and reseal thereselfs.....I hope so,,,....Thanks for the reply guys...i will update after running it a few times more to see if it stays in the good....

Re: 97 Seadoo speedster,,Twin 85hp motors
How is the interior on your boat......?? Mine is kinda cracked up a bit, fixing to have it recovered by a shop here......they keep putting me off every week, they got mess in there all over the place they are backed up with. I will be so glad when they can get to it. I am tickled to death with my boat purchase, as a matter of fact, I enjoy it so much I sold my runabout as soon as I picked this one up. I got mine for a price I couldn't turn down, had to do a little work on it, most of it was from lack of service on the engines, but cosmetics they kept up pretty good. On smooth water with 1/2 tank od fuel and just me in the boat I have had mine GPSed at 56 mph. The thing I like best about the boat is the fact that I can ride 4 folks with ease and ride it pretty much like any other boat, pull the tubes, wakeboard, and ski behind it as well. I also have the option if I want to play, its almost like a ski as well. Fuel consumption is not bad compared to the runabout I had before, as a matter of fact if I keep the engines at close to 4 grand each and just bump around it lasts a good while. It goes pretty quick if I ride it hard though, which is expected with any water toy. We looked at them years back when they first came out and the wife didn't really like them at the time, I kinda surprised her with this one and bought it home, after the first ride she was hooked on the speedster. We now both wish we had of bought a new one years back when they originally came out.

Re: 97 Seadoo speedster,,Twin 85hp motors
I agree this speedster is a very fun boat,,I think i got a good deal...I paid 4000.00,,and it is so close to new condition, its awesome,,,The guy that owned it before me barely used it and took very good care of it,,,the interior is perfect,,,,no scratches just plain out perfect,,,But i know it was maintained well his son mananged a Seadoo dealer so it was always super maintained as he told me and i believe him by the way it looks...thats why i was bummed out when the one motor was blowing that thick gray oil out the exhuast,,,but im just thinking that it could have been old water in the pipe and being that it was still winterized...is seems good now...so thats cool.....im just keeping my fingers crossed...but for the price i got the boat if i do need a crank in the future,,,the few hundred dollars and the beers it will take me to rebuild it wont be that bad!!!!!!!

That was a heck of a good deal, looks brand new! Sweet price.....I pretty much stole mine, most folks don't believe me when I tell them I only gave $700 for the boat and trailer! Left side engine had just been replaced with a sbt crate, got the reciepts for that and it was a $1800 repair for parts/labor. A local marina did that here, it was not rode much after that was done. The owner pretty much just got tired of it and to tell the truth I am normally the one that has to give stuff away to get rid of it, but for once it worked the other way around. When I picked it up it wouldn't even hardly start, idle was like 1800/1500 rpms sitting on the trailer. Got the idle speed adjusted and cleaned the carbs and its been in the water since then every weekend since this spring. I've got plenty of room for future updates with having less than $800 in it total right now. I figure if both engines let go tomorrow..........I'm still sitting pretty! But if I sold it tomorrow, it would be a nice profit in it! Mine is in awesome shape with the exception of the cracking on the gray vinyl seat areas. Had to do a bunch of waxing on it, but its good now. I bought it as a project not knowing what I was getting into, but I figured for no more than I was paying for it, worse come to worse I could part it out and get my money back with-out any doubts. A little tuning, cleaning, and small stuff and its gonna be like new here real soon. There isn't even any stress cracks in the gel-coat, not the first one. It always has been in fresh water and stayed on a boat lift since new when not in use. The rub rails aren't even scratched up! Other than the seats, perfect.
The ski is my 1997 yamaha GP760, its got 53 hours on it and is in brand new shape. Don't ride it that much other than playing in the cove here. My son will kill it this summer though, he has taken a liking to the water toys finally this year.Last edited by Captn'Rob; 06-01-2007, 10:47 AM.

Re: 97 Seadoo speedster,,Twin 85hp motors
I have got a ton of hobbies...into quads as well. Picked this up in pieces two years back and its finally finished. Cost me $250, engine in a box and frame dismantled, but its probably got about $2500 in it now. 1998 yamaha shee, runs good finally after about two years of tinkering on it from time to time. Spend a little on a project or spend a bunch and buy a new one.....I just don't like that hard fall depreciation on play toys and half the fun is tinkering on them yourself.
