I just purchased a 97 xp with a new SBT motor from a friend. The choke ahs been replaced with a primer and you mix the oil now. I honestly don't knwo much about working on these things yet. The first time i took it out it is very touchy to start. You must prime it like three times then it takes about 5 minutes before both cylinders run then she runs fairly good. At full throttle i notice no misses. Ran about 51mph. At 1/2 or 3/4 throttle i notice slight serging like there is a fuel problem to one cylinder. She idles too low also. I need advice for a jetski novice like me. Like are you supposed to run it after you take it out of the water to clear the lines? What should you do when you put it away for a week? Can u use a vac gauge to sync the carbs, where is the mixture screw? Are there filters on the carbs? How fast should it run? Are there timing adjustments that need checked. I know how to tune just about every motor built but this one is new to me and everything seems hidden. Is 50:1 the right oil/gas ratio? How do I know for sure if the oil is still pumping to the crank case? Isn't there a box that should be filled every year near the impellar? I need a book for jetski dummies.
