Well I Got The Engine All Removed ! The Front Piston Is Fine. The Back Piston Is Shot. It Has Metal Flakes All Over The Top And There Are Metal Flakes In The Bottom End Below The Fly Wheel . The Cam Shaft Is Not Moveable At All.im Now Looking For A New Short Block. I See A Lot Of Them On Ebay And Other Web Sites That Are Cheaper. Some Even Have Guarantees. But Thanks To This Web Site And All The Help How Could I Buy Elsewhere? I Will Have To Save Up Some Money To Buy A New Block. In Your Opinon What Is The Best Way To Buy,premium Or The Cheaper One With One Year Guarantee? While I Save Up What Should I Be Doing To Get Ready For That Great Sbt Block ? Will It Hurt To Take The Exhaust Head Pipe, and All The Exhaust System From The Block To The Muffler Down To The Car Wash And Wash Them Out? I Will Also Need A New Rubber Boot That Goes From The Pto Flywheel To The Drive Shaft And When This Is Put On Can You Use A Regular Hose Clamp Or Zip Tie ? Any Thing Else You Think Of That I Can Do To Insure A Great Replacement Before The Block Gets Here Please Let Me Know! Once Again Thanks For The Help And Looking Forward To Your Reply ! :)

I would go with an SBT. Yhea, you can find them on other sites, but let's face it, SBT has a good product, and remember the old saying "you get what you pay for".

As far as standard or premium, that's all your preferance for peace of mind. There is nothing different in the motors, just an added year of warranty and some extra goodies. if you ride the ski A LOT every year, go with the 2 year, more bang for the buck.

Zip ties are fine to hold on the rubber PTO boot. While saving up, clean the snot out of everything.. Scrub the inside of the hull, clean out the carbs, and wax the ski. You don't want the ski looking like crap when you install a new bling bling motor do ya??

As far as other maintenance items, I would suggest you also get new exhaust bushings (the rubber bushings that go between the pipe and manifold). Those should be replaced if they have not been recently. Also, go through your pump and make sure all is in order.

Another thing is to find out WHY that motor failed. There has to be a reason, and with metal flakes, everywhere, something major happened. Post up some pictures of the pistons, crank etc. Let's see if we can diagnose this so you can rectify the problem so it doesn't repeat itself when you install a new motor.

Also.. This is the biggest thing.. You don't need to start a whole new thread whenever you want to post up. From now on, just please hit the reply button below. it makes following the thread for us and others a lot easier.

        Robert,

You can find A LOT of techincal articles and videos on SBT's website, right here. Look under "Technical Artickes". I would also reccomend you get an owners / repair manual. The pump checking procedures can be found in there.

As far as cleaning, I prefer a lot of degreaser, some water and a lot of elboxx grease! Outside, just plain ol' car wash and some Mothers Wax afterwards.

The flywheel comes off as usual (lefty loosey). Once you get that nut and lock washer off, you will need to use a flywheel puller (harmonic balancer puller from an autoparts store will work) to pop off the flywheel. The PTO will be your worst nightmare, I would suggest taking this to a dealer to have him remove.. Or, you can do a thread search on this site, as it's been covered many, many, many times. Just be prepared, it's a PITA!!

Oh yhea, newbie hint #2 - Turn off your caps!! In internet land, it means your yelling!:emoticons
