You need to roll the ski back over allowing any water in the exhaust to go away from the cylinders. Most skis have a sticker, upside down, on the stern that will tell the direction to turn the ski. If you do have water in the engine, pull the spark plugs, ground the wires and turn the engine over. You will need to spray a fogging oil into the cylinders while doing this to keep the water from washing all the oil off the walls. Depending on how much water is in the cylinders/crank case, this can take some time. Remember to give your starter a break and not overheat it. They won't last long if you don't. Here is a link to a downloadable owners manual for your ski.

I would open the coil box and the VTS box and look for water in those places. Because if you do not, and there is water in either one, you will be spending big bucks to fix your XP.

If you find water, dry it out and use WD40 to displace any remaining water or moisture, wipe it out and reseal those boxes.

for the 97 xp the correct way to flip it back over is COUNTER CLOCKWISE. I have flipped my xp several times and if you can get it back over within abot 5 secs it should stay dry and that wont be an issue.

as far as flipping the ski back over its clockwise if you are behind the ski as sticker shows and says. if you in front its counterclockwise so if you grab the grate you go on the rite side of ski and roll clockwise as long as you do it quick inough it will run fine might have to gass it to get it going though:beer

              Re: flipped over seadoo xp

When you buy a watercraft, look at the motor. Memorize the side of the motor that has the exhaust manifold and headpipe bolted to it. Now, realize that when the hull is upside down, that would put the exhaust on the opposite side. Roll the ski over so that the exhaust system cannot allow water to enter the exhaust ports on the clyinder.
This means do not let the exhaust go over the top as you roll it. You do not want the clyinder to be below the pipe where water can drop into the ports.

Sometimes they get flooded during the orginal roll over, before you even try to upright the hull. If you climb back on a depress the start button and the motor will not turn over with the starter, stop right there, quit pushing the start button until you remove the sparkplugs and pump the water out of the motor. If you do not stop, you will be forcing the water into the fuel pump through the pulse line. You can break reed petals, You will force water into the counterbalancer shaft cavity of the cases, and you can bend a rod in the motor ( another reason why motors throw rods out the side at a later date or break wrist pin bearings or counterbalancer bearings).

Last but not least, most pwc's have a sticker on the rear of the hull that when read upside down, tells you how to right the hull when the hull is upside down. Read that sticker.

When you swamp a hull with water, consider that the water probably got into all of the electrical boxes and the VTS box. Dry them out and use WD40 to displace any moisture. This will save you hundereds of dollars in repairs later.

well on a 97 xp the exhoust is on the left side .there for it should be rolled clockwise rite? makes sense that would make the exhaust go under instead of over when rolling guese every ski is differant p/s dont forget to get it running soon or else motor will rust and cost you big bucks. and yes the 97 xp are not realy stable must of been a bad design they seen to flip over easy if your just idleing in the water and a small wake hits you.:emoticonc
