Re: 97 xp
My manual here says SD reccomends the Mineral Oil on the 787's. The 951's and above, the required the Synth.
But, you can run either in the 787's.Dan Solie -

Re: 97 xp
I have never seen a Sea Doo manual recommend anything but the XP-S synthetic oil for a 97 XP.
Here is a clip from a 1997 Xp owners manual:
SPX/GSX/GTX/XP Models Only
Use only BOMBARDIER ROTAX FORMULA
XP-S synthetic injection oil (orthe equivalent synthetic oil). This fully synthetic oil will provide outstandingcleanliness, less friction andwear for greater engine performanceand durability.Oil Injection SystemThis watercraft features an oil injectionsystem which does not requiremanual fuel/oil mixing.A sufficient amount of injection oilshould be maintained in the reservoir.NOTE: Always carry 500 mL ofBOMBARDIER ROTAX INJECTIONOIL.All Models Except HX/XPTo check oil level, remove seat to exposeoil cap; unscrew cap, wipe dipstickthen insert in the reservoir neck.Do not screw cap. Remove dipstickand read the level.Use a flexible funnel to add the requiredquantity of injection oil. Wipeoff any oil spillage.HX/XP Models OnlyTo check oil level, open hood and verifylevel through oil reservoir. Unscrewcap to add oil as necessary.Use a flexible funnel to add the requiredquantity of injection oil. Wipeoff any oil spillage. All Models- CAUTIONNever use 4-cycle petroleum orsynthetic motor oil and never mixthese with outboard motor oil.Do not use NMMA TC-W, TC-W2or TC-W3 outboard motor oils orother ashless type 2-cycle oil.Avoid mixing different brands ofAPI TC oil as resulting chemicalreaction may cause severe enginedamage.- CAUTIONThe 787 engine requires the useof Bombardier Rotax FormulaXP-S SYNTHETIC injection oil (orthe equivalent synthetic oil). Theuse of any other non-synthetic oilmay cause severe damage to internalparts of the engine.
CAUTION
Always maintain a sufficientamount of injection oil in thereservoir. Check and refill everytime you refuel. Do not overfill.the engine runs out of oil, severeengine damage will occur. If theoil reservoir is found almostempty, air can enter in the systemand it must be bled. Immediatelyrefer to an authorized dealerhave the oil injection system inspected.

Re: 97 xp
That was revised in the 1998 manual to only say 947.
The 587, 657, 717 & 787 only require regular. Use of synthetic in a 787 however will keep the RAVE valves cleaner a lot longer, and it is recommended.
Sea-Doo routinely updates specs like that. Another example was the switch from synthetic to regular for the supercharged models after the first year, via a service bulletin.SBT Tech Support is here to help with your problems.

Re: 97 xp
Another good reason to run Synth, is that they are no longer making the Mineral, what you see on the shelf is it..Dan Solie -
