Info Center Display problems

The Info Center on my SD 1999 GSX-L is not completely operational. When I connect the battery it displays the time but it doesn't go thru the intial "Zeroing". Once the key is connected the display is supposed to display like four "8888" for a second or two and then it should clear the display and only show the time, after that the operator can change the mode. My ski never goes to the four "8888" display and doesn't allow me to change the mode. However, the alarms continue to work, i.e., low fuel, hi-temp, etc. Is it perhaps a fuse , cable connection or is my info center shot?

Can someone advice on my next move?

I dont think its a fuse, most likely the gauge is starting to fail.
