  • Backfire at 75%-100% Throttle

    Hi

Looking for a little help with my carb set-up. Bought a GTS with a strange carb set-up - there was additional smaller tubes and what looked like an additional pump that worked off a cam system. I had a spare of stock carbs and replaced them.

The carbs work great at idle and up to about 75%, but there was a few small and one great big backfire above the 75% although it will run for a time.

Went back to the original carbs and the high speed screws were about 1-1/2" turns out. Everything appears to be stock on the ski.

Another note - There was no water reg valve so put on in.

Any thoughts? I am guessing lean on the high but why would that be the case?

That extra little pump with the smaller fuel line?....that's the accelerator pump. Some models had them, some didn't. I'm guessing you got the Mikuni BN 38-40i model carbs. If the ski was so equipped with them to begin with, I think you'd need to put them back on. I think the jet sizes are different between the ones without the accelerator pump. You can get a free download on the Mikuni carbs at www.mikuni.com............
