  • 951 reeds

i have a 98 GSXL that i bought with a seized motor, was seized from salt water, and both reed valve stops are rusted as well as the screws holding them in. The reeds themselves seem to be in good condition, and one of the reed cages is missing one inner support so there is a gap between two of the valves. i was going to just buy two new assemblies but sea doo wants $120 each. i can buy aftermarket reed valves for $200 on ebay. Would i be better off buying OEM? If I bought aftermarket, would i have to re-jet the carbs?

No re jetting should have to be done with different reeds.

The after markets are fine, as tech advised you, the factory jetting will work just the same! make sure you clean your reed ports really good, you need to 3M you block stations if it has been in salt water! and Im sure you know how to prevent this in the future?

Block Statoins? well it came with a R&D flame arrestor and i figured that is how the salt water got in, but a friend of mine told me that the only way to get water into these motors is from flipping the ski over while running. But by the look of the inside of the motor it has been sucking in saltwater for a while.
