I second the carb cleaner.. It's liquid magic! For built up gunk I also take the rave paddle to the wire wheel and give her a good cleaning.

To clean the rave bores, you will need to use a small soft wire pipe cleaner. use WD-40 for this though, since you really don't want carb cleaner degreasing /de-oiling your bearings.

        Re: Cleaning rave valves

I cleaned the raves with carb cleaner, and i cleaned the bore with carb cleaner also, i did it right after sbt posted, when i was done i pulled the plugs and turned the motor over to try and clean all the carb cleaner out of the cylinders. then i put everything back together and it backfired really bad, so bad that i couldnt hear out of my left ear for the rest of the day. then the motor started and seemed to run fine. i took it out to the lake yesterday to see how it runs and it seemed to run pretty bad. from a dead stop i would give it full throttle and the rpm would stay around 5000rpm. if i stayed in it it would eventually go to around 6800 rpm, or if i let off and went back to full throttle. and sometimes i would give it full throttle and it would go like its supposed to.

All the fuel lines have been replaced, and the fuel filter is clean, and i cleaned the carb filters about 3 months ago.

GM Tech, you might try a new set of plugs. Mine did something similar recently, had me completely baffled until I replaced the plugs. That solved the problem for me.

the plugs only have about 6 hours on them, but i can try and see if that is the problem.

              Re: Cleaning rave valves

You must have sprayed a large amount of carb cleaner into the ports to get some serious back firing. Try changing plugs tell us how you make out. Tom SBT tech.
