Re: 94 SPI Fuel gauge stopped working
Inside of the fuel pick up tube (inside the fuel tank) is a float that goes up and down with the fuel level. The float has a magnet mounted in it. That magnet is sensed by a circuit board which electronicly moves the fuel needle. Either the magnet has fallen out of the float (which happened to my 94 GTX) or there's something wrong with the power to the the needle.
I fixed my ski by removing the tank to get the magnet back.
Then open the end if the fuel pick up and removing the float (be careful not to destroy the end "cap". You WILL need to put it back to keep the float in. You should be able to gently pry it off).
I "glued" the magnet back in using a 2 part epoxy. I put the float back in and sealed the pick up using a soldering iron. (after verifying the fix)
Press your start button (with the kill switch off) and tilt the fuel pickup tube up and down and your fuel needle should now move. Done.
If the magnet is still in place in the float, than it is deffinately electrical. In which case grab your multimeter and start trouble shooting from the circuit board back.
I hope this helps. Good luck.
