  • Counterbalance oil

    Tech support or Bill O',

I'm rebuilding a 951 engine and in one of the sections in the seadoo manual it states that the counterbalance shaft gear should be filed with 40ml of motor oil SAE 30!!......is this a typo!!!.....shouldn't it use the seadoo synthetic oil instead???

    Thanks for your help

Nope. The book is correct. 30W motor oil.

Won't this mix back into the crankshaft section??...or is it sealed??.

Is it just normal car oil that it's filled with??...sorry just making sure before I fill it.

      Thanks.

If the seals are good, it will not mix with the engine oil. Yes, it is just the same old 30W oil that you put in a car or a lawnmower motor.

Do not overfill it, leave some space for expansion.

Doesn't the counterbalance oil get replaced with fuel-oil pretty quickly as soon as you run it?

Only on a 787, the 951 is sealed.

              Re: Counterbalance oil

I have a 2003 XPDI with the 951 Motor. Is there any way to check this oil? Or do I never have to worry about it?

                    Re: Counterbalance oil

If you havent sank or hydrolocked the motor, the oil should be fine. It can be checked but is tough to get to.

On overhaul, I put synthetic torco trans oil in, 30wt equivalant.
