94 Seadoo 657 Stator Will a 4 or 5 wire work

I was wondering if a 5 wire stator will work on a four wire stator for a 657x Motor. They look to be the same except for the white wire on the 5 wire stator. Does anyone know if this works and what is the function of the white wire?

X motors are 5 wire stators...

Off the top of my head, on the 5 wire, there should be:
2 - yellow (rectifier)
1 - brown or black (ground)
2 - white or grey (coil triggers)

On the 4 wire, it should be the same, except only one trigger wire. 657x electronics have a dual wire coil.

I may be wrong, since I am across the country from my shop..
