  • '93 GTX HIGH idle

I fired up my '93 GTX today to winterize it. As soon as it started the idle jump way up... almost to the top, I still have a little throttle left but not much. Any ideas? It has been sitting for awhile so the carbs may just be really lean with gunk. I do plan on cleaning them out before we put it in the water next year.

    Thanks
    Darren

    Re: '93 GTX HIGH idle

Could be lean with junk, could be just lack of fuel in one carb since it has not been started for a while, could be a stuck throttle drum.

If it's the 2nd option, it should idle normal after you start and stop it a few times.

that's kind of what i was thinking. just looking for a second opinion. I need to replace the RV cover anyway so I'll clean them out then.

      Thanks

Why do you need to replace the RV cover?

          Re: '93 GTX HIGH idle

I took it off for investigation into why it's hard to start and there are some scratches that I think are a little deep. They appear to be inline with the oil holes, maybe something got in there before I got the ski...not sure. I suppose I could take a pic and post it here for a second opinion but it mite be hard to actually see the depth of the scratches. I'm going to block of the oil pump as well. I know call me paranoid but it's safer, besides my yamaha is blocked so this way I don't have to worry about with can gets used.

              Thanks

                Re: '93 GTX HIGH idle

Here are a couple pics the "better" looking cover is the original one and the one with the dark area is the spare. The dark areas are "pits" or low spots. You can see the marks that I think may be a little deep. However... being new to this sport they may not be deep enough to be having any affect on the performance

                  Re: '93 GTX HIGH idle

Without physically feeling the surfaces, I would say the one on the left is the better one.

                    Re: '93 GTX HIGH idle

that's kindof what I thought after I compared the two of them. I was slightly concerned about the "deeper" scratches. They seemed to be alittle deep. The go all the way around the cover right by the oil intake hole. I don't know how much a new cover costs but it might be a good idea to get a new one. The valve itself looks like it's ok, but then again I'm not a jetski technician.
