I'm trying to install my new engine and disconnected everything from the pump and all the bolts but its stuck and I can;t remove it because of the silicone. The bottom half moves easily but the top doesn't. Anyone have any experience in removing these? Thanks

Re: 94 Seado SPX Pump Removal
You say you have disconnected everything, but just to make sure...
The Bailer lines and main water inlet are disconnected??
Other than that, it's a good YANK. The bailer and inlet tubes are siliconed as well.Dan Solie -

Re: 94 Seado SPX Pump Removal
Your pump should be hanging on studs, if it is an alluminum pump and the ski has been used in salt water for it's life it can be a tough job, I am using a slide hammer with a plate I made that screws on the housing where normally the nozzle bolts on, this works perfect.
Yes I did something stuppid in my begin of ski repairs, I had a rope on the nose to a fence and pulled with my car connected to the pump, unfortunately pulled pulled the nose out of the ski and the pump was still in place.
So think twice before you do anything.

Re: 94 Seado SPX Pump Removal
I've done the rope trick too.. It has always worked for me, but is ALWAYS a last resort.. As skisol mentioned, there are some serious consequences if it doesn't work.Originally posted by skisol View PostYour pump should be hanging on studs, if it is an alluminum pump and the ski has been used in salt water for it's life it can be a tough job, I am using a slide hammer with a plate I made that screws on the housing where normally the nozzle bolts on, this works perfect.

You can spray some PB Blaster on the studs and keep working the pump back and forth.. Also, it helps to have the steering and exit venturi still bolted in, as it gives you an area to grab.Dan Solie -

LOL about the rope trick. At least you learned something new. I'm thinking about doing the slide hammer think and was wondering if you have a picture of what you fabricated you could email me or post. Thanks for all the help.

Re: 94 Seado SPX Pump Removal
I have a 1/4 inch thick square plate, take over the 4 holes from your Nozle, Hole in the center of the plate to connect the slide hamer shaft to.
Hang the plate on the pump housing instead of your nozle, that is how easy it is, use a big slide hammer, not a little one.
I have done the same with a strip 3/4 inch thick and just connected with two bolts to the pump housing, worked fine also.
I made the one with using all 4 bolts probably because I had nothing better to do.
Sometimes I use longer bolts so I can leave the pump cone on, depending on the reasen for pulling the pump.

Re: 94 Seado SPX Pump Removal
A steady pressure puller works best to remove a stubborn pump housing.
Remove nozzels. Place a 2x4 across the back of the hull with two holes that align with two of the nozzel bolt holes in the jetpump. Screw two pieces of 8mm allthread into the two nozzel bolt holes and extending out of the 2x4. Place a flat washer and 8mm nut onto the allthread. Tighten the nuts against the 2x4 and it will pull your pump out of the boat.
I assumed that you have allready removed any water and bailer hoses and the jetpump mounting nuts and washers.
If the pump will not come out, it is stuck on the corrosion between the aluminum jetpump housing bolt holes and the 4 studs that are in the hull. This will not be a problem if you have a plastic jetpump housing.
There are a few ways to try breaking the corrosion loose so the aluminum housing will come off of the studs. The 2x4 and the two allthread studs will be appling alot of pressure onto the pump housing to try to remove it. While you have this pressure applied, try tapping on the ears of the aluminum housing at the mounting holes to shake the corrosion loose. Use an extension rod with a hammer to do this. This may not work if the corrosion is bad enough, but it is worth a try.
If there is enough thread left sticking out of the pump housing to get two nuts onto the studs, you can jamb the two nuts together and use them to unwind the studs from the hull. Be advised there are nuts on each stud on the backside, inside the hull that must be removed before you can unwind the 4 studs that the pump mounts onto.
This method usually works when nothing else will pull the jetpump from the hull.
Personally, I use a 2 inch wide x 1/2 inch thick steel rod instead of a 2x4 to go across the back of the hull, and have been doing this with this method for as long as there have been Sea Doo watercraft around to repair.Bill O'Neal <br>

Re: 94 Seado SPX Pump Removal
I'm pulling the pump in order to replace the wear ring on my '94 XP.
I am having trouble pulling the pump as well and will be building a puller as described above. Besides the two bailer lines and the one main water line, is there anything else inside the hull that needs to be disconnected?
Thanks!

Re: 94 Seado SPX Pump Removal
Got it, just the three lines to remove inside the hull. I built a puller and it was smooth sailing from there. The wear ring looks hammered!
Does the splined shaft look okay? Looks like it could use some grease for sure.
what else should I be replacing while I'm in here?

Re: 94 Seado SPX Pump Removal
Driveshaft looks fine... That wear ring is toast!!! When's the last time you changed / inspected the pump oil?? You will have to do that to replace the wear ring anyhow.Dan Solie -

Re: 94 Seado SPX Pump Removal
Yeah, I'm guessing that's the original ring! LOL! I've owned the ski 12 years and never had to do it.
Pump oil was done 20 hours ago, maybe less, I'd guess.
Any bumpers or bearings that I should replace/inspect?
Thanks,
Matt

Re: 94 Seado SPX Pump Removal
As long as the bumpers are still that mushroom shape and stay in the driveshaft ends by themselves, they are fine. There should be one on each end.Dan Solie -

Re: 94 Seado SPX Pump Removal
Alright, I need a little guidance here. I have the pump, out. The cone removed and oil drained. I have my spline tool, but can not seem to figure out how I'm supposed to use it.
If I clamp the end that was under the cone in my vice, I have the splined end that goes to the PTO and my splined tool which looks just like it. I was expecting the tool to slide over or into the shaft like a wheel lock on a car.
What am I missing here?

Re: 94 Seado SPX Pump Removal
Pretty much what you said.. The pump goes in a vice (end where the pump cone was, now exposed a rectangle part of the pump shaft)..
The Impeller tool (splined end on one side, 17mm ((i think)) on the other.). Put that tool, splined end first into the impeller (just like your driveshaft was). Now, put a wrench or socket on the tool and lefty loosey... Use some force... Or a breaker bar.Dan Solie -
