  • Impeller too tight?

I'm in the process of overhauling my pump, new wear ring seals etc. When I tighten the impeller down to the recomended 92 ft lbs. it is impossible to turn the shaft. I can get it tightened to around 50-55 lbs and can still turn it but it takes some effort. Am I ok at 50 lbs or is something else wrong. Any suggestions?

What type of ski? When you rebuilt the pump are you sure you didn't mess up the thrust washer?

Are you using the same housing, impellor shaft and impellor that came from this jetpump?

Is the impeller hitting the wear ring or binding against the stater, The shaft bearing may not be seated all the way down in the stater?

            Re: Impeller too tight?

I was fishing for some answers because they make different length impellor shafts. If you use a short shaft in a pump that needs a longer shaft, the impellor will bind when you tighten it all the way tight.

Assuming that you did a rebuild on the pump which has been originally installed.

The shaft with the bearing on it sits in the pump housing locked with a circlip, if so, bearing is deep enough in the stator.

So looking from the seal side (threads on shaft), the first thing on top of the bearing is a spacer before the bushing go's on.
Did you install that spacer? If yes was the spacer not damaged or so?

If all is sitting as above, sorry than I have no idea.

                Re: Impeller too tight?

I have seen cases where the impellor was replaced and the measurement from the back of the hub of the impellor to the flat machined surface at the impellor internal threads is not the same depth. That could position the impellor further back into the pump if the depth was greater on the replacement impellor. In that case, a spacer behind the impellor would fix it.
