  • Help with girlie question

:) This may seem very obvious to some, but not to me.
Just bought a 1997 Seadoo Speedster dual engine boat. Tested it on the water, and one of the engines won't idle, just keeps dying, and it smokes. So I had the engines compression tested by a boat mechanic. The compressions were 125 and 120, which the mechanic said was okay. So what would you, whoever "you" might be, do next if this were your boat?

Thank you for your time and patience. I've never had a boat before.

    Re: Help with girlie question

I would be looking at the fuel system, specifically the carbs. Chances are, they have never been rebuilt, and are probably in need of some lovin'.

You should do this to ALL 4 carbs (2 on each motor). If you are handy with a wrench, then it's a fairly straight forward job, if not, then you should take it to a shop.

How close are you to Glendora?? There is a shop there called Watercraft Magic that is owned by one of the BEST sea-doo guru's ever born... http://www.watercraftmagic.net/

Another thing to look at are the spark plugs. Get some NEW NGK BR8ES plugs in there. You can also snip back the plug wires 1/4" to expose fresh copper to the leads. Snip off the zip tie holding the plug boot in place, and twist/pull the boot off. Using wire cutters, snip off 1/4". Push/twist the boots back on, and re-ziptie them. Done..

Also if you have gray fuel line then replace it with new fuel line, the gray line will break down on its inner walls and clog up your carbs.
