Remove DESS on 1996 GTI

Is it possible to replace the DESS to use a less expensive and non security option, but retain the ability for it to shut off the machine if i fall off, etc?

there is a couple ways... but nether are expensive.. I think the GTi has a 717 motor?? If so, you can buy a complete electrical box from a 95 ski (HX, XP) and swap it in there.. All your gauges may not work though.. But, you would then use the old style lanyard post.

Another option is to buy an MSD programmable ignition (for watercraft) and install it. Those don't have security.

Either option will cost you in the 300+ range..
