  • 96 SPX Starts Immed. but Full Throttle

I recently purchased a 96 SPX, hull in exc condition but the machine sat for a bit, so the carbs were stuck some. By stuck I mean that if you squeezed the throttle they didnt go back by themselves. The ski starts right up like brand new except it is full throttle once started. I have pushed the levers back as if not giving it any throttle but that didn't matter.

Can anyone give me any guidance as to what could be wrong or what I can look at to fix it.

Ahhhh... the joys of salt water. Your carb linkages have salt in the bushings.. sometimes cleanable, sometimes not.

Pull the airbox off, and pull the carbs, you should see the problem pretty easily.

so even though I push the throttle cable back so the butterflies close or open the way the should when the throttle is all the way off you still saying something is stuck?

I am going to take the carbs off and clean them this weekend per the video on the carb cleaning and see what happens.
