  • 1998 GTX Limited Overheats

My 1998 GTX Limited with the 951 engine overheated and the alarm sounded steady after only running about 2 min. at idle and just above idle enough to buck the tide about 40 Ft. from the ramp to the floating dock. This is the first use since last season. I ran it last nite on the water hose at the house and it ran with no problems for 4 or 5 min. then i shut it down. The water indicators peed out good last nite and after i got back home today, but when ski was in the river they where not peeing. I ran it another 4 or 5 min. after i got back home today also with no overheating. then i remover the jet pump housing and blew air press. through the water circuit that goes to the engine from the jet pump and no air came out indicators but came out exhaust. Then i blew through indicators and it did not come out water intake circuit. Is there a thermastat in the cooling circuit? Im lost anything you can think of will be appreciated. Thank You

    Re: 1998 GTX Limited Overheats

The cooling problems where I mostly deal with are right after the elbow fitting in the cylinder head. (it's close to the temp sensor)
I must mention that I am dealing in a salt water environment.
People who don't flush proper have that problem.
In your case I would defenately blow with a pease of hose thru that elbow fitting to see if that area is not clogged.
