  • 1998 Seadoo GTX Top End surge

When above 6500 RPM the unit begins to surge back on fourth - between 5800 and 7200 RPM.

New rebuilt carbs - all ports clean and new kits.

New fuel lines, filter, and strainer.

    All line connections seem tight.

See through in-line filter does not run empty of fuel.

Can hold throttle at about 75% with no RPM issue, ONLY when bottle throttle out FULL.

    Any ideas...

Ski runs great tank after tank if only wish to hold throttle with RPM at 6500.

Open the high speed needles another 1/4 turn out and see what happens.

Thanks, I will have to give it a try. What do you think about timing? Sometimes at initial throttle, I have to give it gas quick, let out and then give it gas again or it will die out. Think this initial throttle and then top end surge could be related?

Did you mess with the timing or stator assembly while tinkering with the ski? (not likely). The timing just doesn't go out on these ski's. It's a mechanical process with the stator (and in some crafts the RV) that is either solid mounted or gear driven.

If your timing was an issue, then you would have additional problems.

Re: 1998 Seadoo GTX Top End surge

The high speed idle screw was the ticket. THANK YOU!! The screw is actually limited in movement by the tab on side of screw. The screw was in the middle of gap. I split the diff in the open direction (about 1/8 turn open). PWC works MUCH better and hits the mark with FULL throttle.

Thanks again. Now on to replacing a stater on my other unit. Always something.
