  • Oil Confused

I have read a lot of threads on oil, mineral and synthetic. I have a 98 GTI that has been using the ROTAX mineral oil exclusively. Sat the dealer sold me straight synthetic, which I didn't notice till I got home. I haven't used it, and am a lil cautious about using it since my engine is still pretty tight. I notice some theads recommend the Amsoil Interceptor. I am confused on which way to go? Return the synthetic and use mineral? or switch to sythetic?

On the 787's and below, it is perfectly fine to run mineral...

Switching to synth would require draining the tank, draining the rotary bath and clearing all the lines of the old mineral... THEN you would need to fill up with synth and bleed the RV lines as well as the oil pump.

I run Amsoil in all my ski's. 3 reasons, I have many ski's with different levels of modifications, I only have to stock one oil, and I am an Amsoil dealer... It's cheaper than SD oil lol.

Many thanks. That was the answer I was looking for. I will stay with the mineral oil.

Sea-Doo's mineral oil and synthetic oil are fully compatible and will have no issues if mixed together.

i thought i couldn't use quick silver in pwc thought it was just made for outboard only...because i was only able to get a gallon of the amsoil and it was $50 bucks...in this case i'll just go back to the quicksilver...btw how long should a gallon last me on 96 gtx ?

How would that change the oil's properties? ...ALL Sea-Doo oils meet the ROTAX specifications/requirements for the RV motors...... The OEM factory "test-run" oil for ALL ROTAX 2-strokes 587-657-717/720-787/800 and 947/951 has always been the mineral oil...(just enough to bleed the system and test it on the production line)!
