4 tech oil problem

Purchesed rebuild motor from sbt runs good but when it is running smokes alot goes through lots of oil and pressurizes the crankcase to the point it pushes the oil out the oil filter. When you take the oil fill cap off it's under pressure any ideas?

Call sbt now dont worry about how its running your exhaust
is where the pressure is coming from after the spark plug ignites
the gas and pushes your piston down to rotate the crank to turn
your prop.

It could also be your TOPS is stuck.. If that happens, exactly what you described takes place.

when you put the key on, there is a little solenoid, just to the right of the fill tube that cycles.. If that's not happening, then the TOPS is not working. It could also fail other ways as well.

A quick trip to a dealer can confirm this as well.

I can hear the tops valve working when I hook up the layard and tops stands for TURN OVER PROTECTION SYSTEM it's suppose to close when the boat turns over to keep the oil in the engine

It's actually "tip over protection"... eh, whatever..

I am not sure how the shortblocks come from SBT on the 4-tec's.. I'll have to read further into that and think.. Tech will prob chime on here tomorrow too..

Do you have any oil in your cyls while cranking with the plugs out?

There is also an oil pressure valve located on the bottom of the P.T.O housing, if it is sticking you could get higher pressure readings.
