  • stripped threads on cone of pump

2nd cone and I stripped the threads can I insert metal threads with an epoxy and use a different set screw. What size would match the pressure pump seadoo sells to check for leaks in pump. I would rather size the hole to use another type of pressure tester so I'm not locked into the seadoo tool.TIA

So you stripped the oil fill / pressure test hole, right? NOT the pump mounting bolts. You can size up to whatever you want, no biggie. Just pick whatever thread and size you want, you can always make an adapter for the pressure test fitting.

Re: stripped threads on cone of pump

thanks dsolie for getting back to me. One more question, I rettapped the oil fill hole with 1/2 coarse threads because that is what I was able to find in a set screw the next size up at home depot. It threaded in nicely but when I filled the pump with oil ( had the ski tilted to forward and overfilled pump) the oil seeped right thru the fitting tried teflon tape and still oozed thru so I know its not sufficient to keep water out or oil in. Was my mistake not using fine threads. What would you suggest.TIA

Fine threads and a thread locker (loc-tite) would help out a lot.

            idooxp,

You really need to look at putting in a tapered pipe-thread. I don't have that model so don't know what size was in it. You can go to hardware store and check sizes for your application.

Smallest would be 1/16-27 npt followed by 1/8-17 and then 1/4-18.

Tap drill sizes for each are

            1/16-27 - C drill (.242")
            1/8-27 - Q drill (.332")
            1/4-18 - 7/16 drill (.437")

            Hope this helps.

Re: stripped threads on cone of pump

271001250 is the OEM partnumber and only cost $13 retail, why making it so difficult.

If you keep fixing the way you are doing make sure that the plug/screw you are going to use is not longer than the original one, because there is a pusher system in your cone and you don't want the plug to push against it.
If you took the cone of the pump make sure that the you can push thru the plugs hole and that there is play on the pushing system.
Sorry don't know how to discribe it better than I did.

Re: stripped threads on cone of pump

thanks guys for all the replys. the reason I,m bothering with this issue is because this is my 2nd cone and for what ever reason no matter how careful I am I keep striipping the threads. When I created my own threads the set screw went in and out perfectly so I know another cone is not the way I want to go . I 'm 2nd owner so maybe the plug is not the right plug for this cone . I think I'll epoxy metal threads and match with new plug. thanks guys
