  • 657x Flooding

I just put a rebuilt motor in my 95 gtx. Turned it over for the first time and it fired up. It ran for about 10 sec. and shu down. Pulled the plugs and its spitting alot of raw fuel out both plug holes and a little out the carbs. What would cause the flooding issue?

Leaking or failed needle and seat. Did you re-build the carbs??

No. they werent rebult. Should i try the carbs off the sister ski to make sure thats the issue? And would the carbs be the only thing that would cause this issue?

You will have to open it up to see what's in there now.

One more thing. if i unhook the pulse line it stops pushing it out the carbs. but it will eventually stop running. if you hook the pulse line back up it will start flooding. is this due to the seats being bad. or is the pulse pressure to high?

                Re: 657x Flooding

Still the seats.. The pulse just tells the fuel pump to pump.. The fuel pump, well pumps the fuel and it's up to the N&S to regulate the amount of fuel entering the motor.

New seats are in and still doing the same thing. Pushing fuel out the carbs and flooding it out. Pretty sure i timed the rotary valve correct but, What is the exact way to time the motor? What elese could be the issue?

Okay.. did you check the pop-off?? Pressure the carbs for a leak down test?? is your diaphragm resting too much on the needle lever??

How do you check the pop off pressure. i hear alot about it but i dont know how to check it. And about the diaphrams. They seem that they are holding aginst the needle. when i pull the caps off they slowly pull off the needle and seat. What would cause that?

                          Re: 657x Flooding

The needle arm should be flush with the inner carb body, or just a hair below. The diaphragm nipple should rest on the needle but not apply too much pressure, or it will be holding the needle slightly open (causing the flooding you are having).

Go the the tech articles on this site and there are very detailed instructions on how to check your pop-off as well as how to pressure test the carb.

You will need to buy a $40 gauge to do it... Where are you in Florida?? There are many shops in FL that can test them for you for a small fee.

Also, just to make sure... The seat retainer and screw are in, right? That little piece of metal that wraps around the seat to hold it in place??

What should the pop-off pressure be? I am in central Florida, do you know of a place around here I could have it tested? Can a boat shop test it?

Which is closer to you, Ft. Pierce or Dania Beach?
