  • Engine cuts back after reaching high RPM?

My 97 GTI idles and runs fine at low RPM. However, when I give it full throttle it will Rev up and then die down, almost quit. Sounds like a fuel problem but I'm not sure. I winterized it including fuel stabilizer and fogging oil last fall. Does anyone have any suggestions? thanks

Take it easy, you can easily blow your motor doing that!

Yes I would agree you have a fuel issue - I would start by rebuilding your carbs, and making sure your filter isn't clogged.

Tech, thanks for the quick reply. Take what easy? I was in the water when the problem occured and I was not giving the throttle an all-at-once command but gradually adding power when the the engine would cut back.

I just mean - don't do it again. A common mistake people make is, when they detect such a problem, they keep doing it over and over - doing more damage.
