97 XP Low Oil light not functioning!

Hello All,

I have jumped out the wires that lead to the low oil light and pressed the start button (DESS key not connected) and there is no low oil light. 2 questions:

1)Does the engine need to be running for the light to be functioning?

2) Is this problematic and can it be fixed?

I beleive that the motor needs to be running...

You could also have a faulty sending unit.

I always just look at the oil tank to make sure there is plenty in there.
