We were on the water for over 2 hours and it was running fine. Then we tried to start it and the starter continued to spin even with the key unplugged. It spun until the battery went dead. The battery is brand new. I disconnected the battery charged it fully and when trying to connect the battery the starter began to spin without the key in the ignition. I tried connecting it several times and the starter would still spin?? Thanks Gib1022.

Sounds like the starter is toast or the solenoid is stuck in the open position.Dan Solie -

Re: 2001 Seadoo GTX-DI starter spins until Battery is dead
Before I left the house to take it to the dealer, I touched the positive cable to the pos battery terminal and the starter imediately started spinning the engine like it did before which would just spin the engine til the battery went dead. So I brought it to the Seadoo dealer here in Austin and I touched the wire again to show the tech what it was doing and now its back to normal. I guess the bumpy ride on the trailer jarred it loose. The dealer said it might be the rectifier is bad? My question is would the rectifier cause this problem? Thanks Gib1022

No... Rectifier has nothing to do with it..Dan Solie -

Either the solenoid is stuck (at times) or the starter bendix retraction spring is fubar...Dan Solie -

Re: 2001 Seadoo GTX-DI starter spins until Battery is dead
When it gets to this mode the starter spins the motor even with the key off of the ski. While it is spinning I tried putting the key on and it still refrains from starting, but when I got to the dealer I put the key on and it fired up like it was brand new. When it is working right it starts every time and the starter is fine. ?? Gib1022

Re: 2001 Seadoo GTX-DI starter spins until Battery is dead
upon re-reading the thread... It has to be the solenoid... Or some very strange communication error between the start button/dess post and MPEM...
I am betting the solenoid...Dan Solie -

Re: 2001 Seadoo GTX-DI starter spins until Battery is dead
Seadoo dealer called and said it was the Mag TBSensor (I guess the throttle body position sensor). Also said to replace the rectifier regulator. This 2001 boat only has 50 hrs. Is the solenoid separate or attached to something? He also said i had a leak in the seam of my oil tank. Thanks Gib1022

The "ignition switch" is the MPEM. Sure, replace it... It's only about $1,000... Or, you can see if it happens again.. and if it does, try replacing the $30 solenoid.Dan Solie -
