  • 2009 Sea-Doo GTX Limited iS 255 "Overheating" problem...not covered under warranty ??

    Hello all,

New to this forum. Our 255 has only 16 hours on it and we've encountered a problem.
While riding 255 we encountered red "temp" light which in turn shut 255 down for a few
mins. We then docked bike, read manual and called Sea Doo dealer...both book and dealer
advised us to check for obstructions or debris at rear inlet...we verified inlet was clear of
debris. We took 255 back out again and within mins overtemp indicator came back on and
once again shut 255 motor down. It should be noted that at no time did we lose performance
nor was there any indication of a problem other than warning lamp coming on.

We pulled 255 out and trailered it back to Sea doo dealer. 255 is still under 1yr factory
warranty and we purchased sea doo extended warranty. Received call from dealership
saying both "Prop & Wear Ring" damaged due to some kind of debris being ingested into
inlet...approx cost $300-$400 bucks. No big deal I guess....However dealer called back
to inform us 255 motor damaged because the "wear ring" spun or shifted thus not allowing
sea water access to cool radiator again resulting in engine damage.

    a) for the record the sea-doo dealer has been very professional and nice in everyway.

    b) I'm not a technical or mechanically knowledgeable person however I'm wondering if a
design flaw may exist that caused this situation. Although I never saw any debris stuck inside
I accept the fact that something at some point may have gotten into inlet...however I still
think something could be done to prevent engine from getting damaged...i'm told by others
that the plastic wear ring is suppose to protect against this type of failure.

    c) I'm not looking for a free-bie repair...rather I'm wondering if anybody else has experienced
this failure and weather or not this may be a design problem. I'm not sure I can enjoy riding
the 255 since I don't understand how it got hurt in the first place. Estimated cost of repairs at $3,500 bucks and could be higher (oochhh)

    d) for the record in the limited time we've ridden our 255 we luv it...the features (reverse/suspension)
are awesome so hats off to Sea-doo on nice piece...

    e) Anybody experiece engine failure resulting overheating ??

Thanks for any help and I can also be reached at DHANCE1@AOL.COM
