97 GTX weak power at take off

I just installed a remanufactured motor from sbt. I had the carbs rebuilt by a local marine mechanic who has since been fired. I also replace all fuel lines, fuel control, and fuel filter.
My problem is when I hit the throttle there is little power but when I get it planed and going around 30 , I pump the throttle and it takes off and will do 55.
What could be the cause of this? Any help would be greatlly appreciated.

Poorly rebuilt carbs... Pop-off and stock settings need to be checked and adjusted

meters the amount of fuel into the carb

Can I adjust the pop off valve myself? If yes can I get the tool from SBT?

Yes you can.. SBT does sell the PO tool

Dan they did not mention if the motor reved or not when taking off, is so i would check the wear ring, if not rebuild the carbs your self.

motor will rev and I am going off memory to 5000 rpm when taking off. When I get to around 30 mph I keep pump the throttle or catch a good wave and it takes off to 55 mph.

sounds like you need a wear ring

you will need to pull the pump remove the impeller the stock wear rings are black and it will have chunks missing sbt also has wear rings

On a scale of 1 to 10 how hard is it to replace the wear ring? Also, if the wear ring is bad how does it effect the performance? I really want to learn b/c we will have a jet ski in the family for a long time and I like to learn how to work on new things.

Could be a worn impeller, or a combination of worn impeller and busted up wear ring. I would bet on the wear ring though.

I never worked on a ski before and I had it done in an hour. Very easy. You will need to buy the impeller removal tool though......SBT sells them for $12 I think.
