  • sucking air in my doo

ok here i go , only one at a time jump down on me , me being the new kid on the block. my " ? " is , i have a 95 seadoo gtx , i've replaced my output shaft, bearings seals and hose, i've also replaced my pump shaft, impeller, bearings, seals, needle bearing and wear-ring, i've put around 10 hours on it, and it loses power, like the clutch is sliping, i pulled the pump off , and it looks like the wear ring is out of shape ? did i put it in wrong ? ( sorry about the long story) TNT

when you put the wear ring in did it slide in or press in. It should be a snug fit and also you should be using a press-fit locktite or even better use 2 screws like they do in later year jet pumps. This will prevent the wear ring from slipping and spinning. Also, make sure the splines on the driveshaft are not stripped.

The splines up inside of the pto and in the impellor usually strip out long before the splines on the driveshaft, if that is your problem. All Sea Doo wear rings look like they are worn on one side more than the other. That is normal.

You do not need loctite or anything else to hold the wear ring in a 1995 SD pump.

Put the wear ring in a freezer for an hour and it will just slip in without any force. Then it will warm up and expand to it's normal size and your done.

            TNT,
I use the block of wood method to install the wear rings on hundreds of Sea Doo pumps for the past 14 years. I have yet to ever put one in a freezer.

The thing to look for in an aluminum pump housing from an early model SD is corrosion under the wear ring. It will be a white chalky like material. Using coarse sandpaper, I remove the corrosion before I install the new wear ring. If you don't, the prop will be tight in the wear ring when you try to install it. This is not a problem with plastic pumps.

Bill O'Neal, my pump is the pastic type, another thing i saw was play in the pump housing shaft, sliding back and forword , the book say it should be .021 thous. mine is like .115 ? the shaft is in right and needle bearing ,and washer, 10 hours old , also the impeller tightened to 52 lbs .? thanks

Come on bill you have to try it. I keep a fridge in my shop for drinks. The freezer is empty since i don't keep food in it. I use the freezer for cooling items before instalation.
I also race nitro off-road buggy's and when you build the motors for them you have to freeze the crank to get the crank bearings on since the bearings are rubber sealed and you can't heet them up like a jet ski crank bearing.

                  TNT,
The inside of the pump cone has a stopper in it that limits the end play. Maybe yours is in need of a new one?
