2007 GTI No power and smoking

My son recently got a rope hung up in the intake. He had someone pull him to shore. They turned it on it's side to cut the rope out. The ski cranks fine but it has no pwer and smokes when it is reved up. The oil looks good and I changed the plugs.
Anyone have any suggestions?

compression test??

if by no power you mean that the prop spins but you don't move very much, then you have an issue with your pump/driveline

By no power I mean that the engine bogs down when you rev it up. It doesn't shut off, it just will not rev up like it should.
It also starts smoking when you rev it up. It was working fine until it was tilted on it's side.

Compression test #1.

Also, you could have tilted it the wrong way and got water in the motor. Pull the plugs and crank it over, see if water shoots out.

I pulled the plugs and no water came out. I did not do a compression test but felt like it had plenty.

Make sure that all the rope is out from around the impeller and if the wear ring is damaged replace it. You might have a little oil that has leaked into the cylinders and is causing the smoke issue. Post back with more info on how the ski is running.
