  • Rotary Valve Cover

I am replacing motor and have noticed my rotary valve cover has grooves and scratches in it. Would it be better to buy a new cover or have it machined out. One of the grooves runs to the edge of the 2 openings. I have put more money into this ski than I should have and want this to be the last motor and get good use out of it. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

In most cases you can have it re-machined or trade it in to us as a core for a re-conditioned one.

        Re: Rotary Valve Cover

My engine has a grove scored all the way around the rotary valve surface from a piece of the piston ring. This damage is on both the rotary vavle cover and on the crankcase surface.

Will this damage affect the performance of the motor after a rebuild?

Yes it can cause issues. The surfaces should be smooth; a few light scratches will not be an issue.

What kind of issues will a groove between ports cause?
