I have an ignition issue regarding intermittent spark to plugs. I found this tid-bit, the note in blue at this link Aftermarket MPEM #1 - Sea Doo PWC [OSD4601] - $189.99 : www.OnlySeaDoo.com, Sea Doo Is All We Doo! stating the following;
NOTE TO TEST YOUR ELECTRICAL SYSTEM AND DETERMINE IF YOUR MPEM IS FAULTY, THE PROPER WAY IS TO UNPLUG THE BLACK/RED WIRE BETWEEN THE COIL AND MPEM. IF IT STARTS AND RUNS FINE, YOUR MPEM OR SWITCHES HAVE A PROBLEM. IF IT DOESN'T RUN, YOU HAVE A STATOR OR COIL ISSUE. NOTE IF TESTING THIS WAY YOU'LL NEED TO KILL THE ENGINE WITH THE CHOKE SINCE THE KILL SWITCHES WILL BE BYPASSED.
I have tried this method and found my 92 XP runs with this wire disconnected and has no spark to plugs when connected. Thus, i need a 278 000 200 or 278 000 070 MPEM. What i want to know is what would happen if i ran the ski with this wire disconnected? I understand i will be eliminating the rev limiter and to stop the motor i would need to have a way to ground the coil. The charging circuit should still function normally.
My manual says the Engine Speed Limiter has three functions:
- keeps high voltage away from tether cord switch.
- provides engine stop by grounding the primary coil.
- limits engine RPM to prevent over-revving.
not sure how MPEM does the first thing, but if tether cord switch only has to be pressed during starting and can be left open after that, i can't see the issue there. If i ground the tether cord switch on one side disconnecting it from the stop switch, and connect the leads from the stop switch to the blk/red wire from the mag to the coil, i have my kill switch.
Anyone have any thoughts on this? All responses will be appreciated.
......and if you have a spare MPEM.......let's talk.........
