  • 98 GTI 720 intermitant starting

My 98 GTI w/ a newer 720 engine runs and starts great, but three or four time on a ride it won't idle and dies. It is then hard to start; when it does start it will only idle and die when you give it throttle. After babying the throttle for a well it pick up rpms and snap back to normal, full power and good idle. Crab has been rebuilt, the motor rebuilt last season. Any ideas?

You still have a fuel issue someplace, see if the fuel tank is holding slight pressure when this issue happens, open up the fuel cap to see if air escapes, if no pressure then you may have a bad tank check valve.

I did notice when I removed the gas cap to fill the tank a lot of air came out. I will check to see if there is an intermittent problem in the line somewhere.
