drive shaft question

I have a 97 and a 96 GTX, I noticed in the parts manual there are two different part numbers for the 97 and 96 GTX. Does anyone know what the diference is between the two? and are they interchangable? Also the 97 doesnt use the gasket seal at the thru hull fitting, why not? Sorry for the questions just Im new at the forum and jetski. Im putting together one ski between the 97 and 96.

I believe its the groove cut for the carbon ring clip, the 96 may not have had it.
