  • 1997 Sea doo GTX will not reve over 4500 RPM

My 1997 GTX will not reve over 4500 RPMs in the water under load. Out of the water it will go up to 7000 RPM with no trouble on the trailer. Have change carbs off a good running machine, replaced fuel lines,, removed temp sensor wire, and checked valve on muffler. This machine ran great last year when it was winterized . Does anybody have any ideas. I was told to remove the red wire on he rectifier and try that.

I have a 1998 Gtx ltd same exact scenario. Valve looks good I found a little corrosion on the wires inside the lower right connection to the engine control unit cleaning those tonight and going to see if that makes a difference

Hey thanks I checked that and they where clean and tight. Since that I have cleaned power valves, checked pop valve pressure which is around 30 PSI on both carbs , replaced stator, removed red wire from rectifier, checked flow of fuel back to tank which appears to be plenty. I had the muffler off and it appears to be fine because water will flow through it with no problem. The only thing I have not replaced is the water regulator valve from another machine. Has anybody run into anything like this on a machine before?

Let me know what you find, I have the same issue and have ran out of guesses. I've rebuilt most of the ski outside of the core engine. could it be a sensor or rev limiter?
