  • Drive shaft bearing

What happened to this bearing (pointing to problem with large screwdriver)? It's like the bearing seal and sleeve has come out of the assembly. Is this common? It's a freaking new bearing and It's leaking water into the boat. Anyone else seen this? I gotta pull the **** pump again

    Re: Drive shaft bearing

I removed the pump and the driveshaft bearing. It's the driveshaft seal that came out. There is zero Loctite and the hydraulic pressure from the grease alone was enough to push this seal out. I wonder if i can ever get it to seat again.

I bought this from SBT. This looks like a quality control problem.

      Re: Drive shaft bearing

Since sbt techs don't want to jump in. Ill leave this here:

I cleaned all bearing grease out of this brand new carrier, used alcohol to degrease the metal surfaces. I had some anaerobic sealer used for mating crankcases and coated the metal surfaces, and pressed the seal back into the carrier. I put it all back together knowing I'll have to watch it and there's a strong possibility I'll have to do it again sooner or later. Here it is fixed:

          Re: Drive shaft bearing

The seal has stayed in so far, but haven't really run the boat but on the trailer (see my other thread about won't idle)

I used an anaerobic gasket maker and tapped the seal back in the housing with a block of wood and a ball peen hammer. Seems good now.
