First I would like to say thanks in advance to anyone that can provide helpful feedback, now here is my nightmare. I have a 2005 gti rfi that I completely rebuilt in 2012 with SBT parts. This machine is spotless other than the need to rebuild the motor at this time as it only ha 37hrs. I was stupid and ran oil low enough that I fried piston bearing that then got loose and went throughout the casing. After rebuild, machine was rock solid until I put it in the water beginning of season 2014 now 20 hrs new motor. It ran fine on land before hand, in water it had no power. like limp mode but threw no codes. After troubleshooting just about everything I could think. Trips to two different pcw guys....fuel injectors, voltage regulator, complete overhaul of entire fuel system. No one could find anything wrong. I gave up, due to having young child at the time. machine sat till last spring 2 years, then the growing little guy wants me to get it running. If it had been running I would have sold it, but its not and it is still like brand new. So I go threw it again. Runs good, high rpm on land no odd noises. Still ran with no power and threw no codes. off to dealer it went. They found nothing but a bad ground and gave it back, put it in water and same thing. They owned it now, so back it went. They preformed a ride test and said it ran fine other than stalling once at idle and heard a slight noise. That caused them to pull head off an inspect. They returned it to me with the belief that it may have a bad crank. In disbelief that they even got it to run, I went straight to lake. Sure enough it ran fine and it continued to for an additional 2 or 3 tanks of gas. Then one day it would not go and I was back to no power limp mode like and no codes. When I pulled plugs I found PTO side plug was gently mushed against itself. Time to rebuild....I guess. So here is the current problem. Motor is out and I have it mostly torn down and I'm not finding any smoking gun. Before I sink another 5 bills into this unit I would like to know what the issue is. Any suggestions, ideas, or a plan on path forward would be greatly appreciated. My plan was new SBT crank and pistons, everything else is still new like even gaskets that came apart so easily compared to last time......what a PITA and machine is so nice looking.

Re: Need help....at my wits end
I just finished tearing motor down and it was the crank. The inner bearing on the PTO side had one section of the cage damaged or loose causing things to bind up. I just ordered a new crank so this one will be coming back to you. I know the warranty has expired, but the hours on engine are very low for this to have happened. It would be nice for both of us to know why. Is it possible to have someone look at it? maybe you guys could give me a reason for a the trouble I had.Originally posted by SBT-Tech 1 View PostCheck rotary valve clearance. This will cause starting issues when ski is in the water.
Check the exhaust for obstruction.
Have fuel injectors cleaned and tested.
Thanks
