  • '99 Sea Doo XP TPS diagnosis

I just finished replacing the top end on a 1999 XP 947/951 and it would quit as soon as the starter button was released. I found some information that said if you disconnect the TPS and if the engine runs but won't rev to 3000 RPM, the problem could be the TPS. If I disconnect the TPS, the engine will run up to 3000-3500 RPM. I have looked at the Sea Doo repair manual for diagnosis of the TPS but could not find anything. The wiring diagram is not much help either. I would like to make sure that the TPS is the problem before I replace it. Does anyone know the voltage and resistance specs for the three terminals on the TPS?
    Thank you, Gil

A 1999 XP is a carbureted engine, no TPS.

True but what is the three wire sensor that is located by the oil tank actuated by the throttle cable? The service manual says it is for controlling the timing.

Sorry, forgot that the 99 has a TPS sensor in the cable. It sends a signal to the MPEM when the throttle is 80% or more to control the timing.

I can't find any info in the manual either.
