04 gti le with a 657 engine.
Good evening everyone, i purchased an 04 sea doo gti le. The ski revs high but in the water it would not go past 30mph, did some digging to see that the wire harness was cut, come to find out the ski has a white 657 motor in it. Is there anything i can do to improve the speed on it? Or im stuck at 30mph?

2004 GTi LE came with a 717/720 engine.
If someone changed to a 657 you will never get full speed.
28-44 MPH is what I would expect from it.
If you have full RPM in the water and you are getting only 30 MPH I would check to see if the jet pump is in good shape.
Specifically, impeller and wear ring clearance needs to be inspected. -

I replaced the wear ring, but the impeller is for the 720 engine. Should i seek a 657 impeller to possibly match the engines RPM and required pitch?Comment

The 2002 GTi has a 155mm pump and the older 657 ski's used a 140mm pump, so you will not be able to use a 657 impeller in that pump.Comment
