  • 5 amp fuse keeps blowing on 97 xp??

after several foot of air, and a remarkable landing. she stopped with no bleeps or anything! after being towed in at a steady 5 mph. i checked the obvious things like battery and leads, but to no avail,
eventualy i discovered that the 5 amp fuse had blown, so i replaced it!
she blew again, and again and again. she blew every time i replaced the connecting plug.
can anyone tell me if this is quite common and that its just a short somewhere(and where) or could there be a problem with the brain!??
thanks again chaps i couldnt survive without you!!!!!!!!

I would imagine it's your VTS blowing the fuse - very common. Unplug your VTS wire harness and I bet it will not blow next time. I would open your VTS box and you will probably find either water or just a lot of corrosion, and a short somewhere.

      THANKS BRYAN
TRIED THAT, BUT EVERY TIME I PLUG THE WIRE INTO THE ENGINE IT BLOWS THE ,AND SOMETIMES THE OTHER FUSE WHICH IS INSIDE THE MPEM. COULD THERE BE A PROBLEM WITH THE FLYWHEEL WIRES OR SOMETHING?
HAVENT GOT A CLUE AS USUAL, BUT THE HELP YOU GAVE WITH MY XP LTD WAS FANTASTIC.
RUNNING QUITE WELL NOW ALTHOUGH I HAVENT RUN HER IN YET! A LITTLE BIT MESSY UP HIGH IN THE REVS, BUT I REALY SHOULDNT BE UP THAT HIGH YET SHOULD I!!!!

OK - if you have unplugged your VTS and it's blowing the MPEM fuses - you have a direct short somewhere - open your front electrical box, check for obvious damage. If all loks well, then yes, open your flywheel cover and inspect your stator and wires. Make sure you check all your ground wires, especially at the battery.
