• 2001 rx di

Found a dealer with a brand new, never used, never preped 2001 rx di - w one year warranty.

Picked it up from dealership last night. Watched them prep it to make sure they didn't do anything they shouldn't be doing. Was difficult to start, but once started, it ran.

Took it to the water, dumped it in. Fired right up... started going... died. Started again.. died. Started again... began running - ran fine. Sounded like it wanted to die briefly and ran. The red light on the info center came on. Full of oil but they didn't put much gas in the tank. Maybe a gallon or so.

Is there something wrong or maybe from going in the water the gas is just too low? I'm going to fill the tank tonight to see if the problem goes away.
Have you ever wondered why they don't make B batteries?

If you REALLY only had 1 gallon, YES that is a big problem. The pickups only extend to about 1" from the bottom of the tank, and it sloshes around, so if you have less than a couple gallons you CAN easily suck up air. You should NEVER have gone out that low and may have very well damaged your brand new ski.

Then why the heck wouldn't the dealership tell me that... like give me a warning like you need to add more gas to your ski BEFORE taking it anywhere?

Or... since they just picked up 55 gallons of gas in a tank why wouldn't they have put more in. I mean they're the ones that have to work on a ski under warranty for free.

If you read the owners manual it states to add gas below the low fuel warning point. Unless the dealer specifically said they will sell you the ski with a full tank of gas I wouldn't assume it would come as such.

They charged me $99 to prep it - and they did fill it up with oil. They also said I have enough gas to make it to my dock. Which is what I did. They filled the oil tank up. Gas... the last time I bought a new ski they filled the gas tank. Hell when I bought my new vehicle part of that prep was that they fill the tank. As far as reading the manual... i did.. it didn't say not to run it with less than a couple gallons of gas... where is that?

I read the break in and everything. I didn't ride it very long. If I did damage I would think it would be noticeable.

It will say something about refueling after the low fuel warning light (red light you mentioned on the dash) came on.

If you got a ski with a full tank of gas that's great, but not the norm.

Dealer Prep is not topping off fluids in most cases, it's final assembly of the ski and usually adjusting the trailer for the ski.

When I asked the dealer what the prep included they said "Fill gas tank" Fill oil. Check hoses. double-check everything, charge battery, install battery. Machine was already assembled.

It was already assembled but not paid for yet

If you have it in writing that the fuel tank was supposed to have been filled, I would go back and raise some hell.

Raising hell doesn't work with these people. I've done that before. I put in on Amx... if I have any problems it's under warranty through them and Amx...and I'll have it taken off my bill, I'll drop it off and tell them to give me a new one.

Well.. this thing now has 10 gallons of gas in it and as soon as you get up on a plane it dies again.

Yeah right. I saw a post yesterday whicih said the problem cleared up after changing the plugs. So.. I asked my friend who used to work for bombardier - was involved with everything in design etc. Well I asked her and she said that when they ship motors they automatically use some special grease or something similiar which serves to protect the engine if not sold right away and not used. That goop apparently burns off when it is first turned over and ruins that set of spark plugs. Therefore after letting it run for a few minutes you need to change the plugs. Which we did and it now runs fine.

Thanks for all your assistance.
Kind of strange my wonderful "dealership" didn't bother telling us this - especially since they are the only ones with the service bulletins.

Very interesting...I have never heard of that procedure though. We have had DI's here and have not had that happen whatsoever, nor has anyone reported that on the forums in the past few years they have been made.

Glad it's working now though!
